Gas Leak Test & Trace · £80

Gas Leak Detection in Croydon · £80 Test & Trace

Suspect a gas leak? I carry out a full tightness test, trace the leak to its source and make the installation safe. £80 fixed price, Gas Safe registered, 16 years experience.

If you can smell gas right now, do not wait for me. Call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 free, 24 hours. Turn the gas off at the meter if you can reach it safely, open the windows, and do not touch light switches or anything electrical.

What a £80 gas leak test and trace involves

A gas leak is not always a smell. It can be a meter that creeps when everything is switched off, a pilot light that keeps dropping out, or a faint odour that comes and goes near one appliance. The job is to prove whether gas is escaping, and if it is, find exactly where.

What the £80 covers, and what it does not

The £80 covers attending, testing, tracing the leak and making the installation safe. That is the part you need done before anything else, and it is a fixed price.

The repair is separate. Once I know where the leak is, I will tell you what it will take to put right and what it will cost, and you decide whether to go ahead. Sometimes it is a ten-minute fix on a joint. Sometimes it is a run of corroded pipe under a floor. There is no honest way to price that before finding it, so I do not pretend to. There is never any pressure to have the repair done by me.

Common causes I find

Landlords and letting agents

If a tenant reports a gas smell, that is an emergency and it needs attending the same day. I take emergency call outs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Out of hours the call out is £160 rather than £80. A leak found during a CP12 gas safety check is made safe as part of that visit and recorded on the certificate.

Areas covered

Based in Croydon, I cover an 8-mile radius across South London including Croydon, Bromley, Sutton, Thornton Heath, Purley, Lambeth and Wandsworth.

FAQ

Gas leak questions

I can smell gas, what should I do first?

Call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 straight away. It is free and staffed 24 hours. Turn the gas off at the meter if you can reach it safely, open the windows, and do not touch light switches or anything that could spark. They will make the situation safe. I can then test, trace and repair.

How much does gas leak detection cost?

£80 fixed price with Morheat Ltd during office hours. That covers attending, the tightness test, tracing the leak to its source and making the installation safe. The repair itself is quoted separately once I know what is wrong, and you decide whether to go ahead.

What if you cannot find a leak?

The £80 still applies, because the testing is the work. A clean tightness test is a useful result in itself: it proves the installation is sound and points the problem somewhere else, such as a flue issue or an appliance fault rather than an escape.

Can you repair the leak the same day?

Often yes, if it is an accessible joint or a straightforward section of pipe and I have the parts on the van. Where pipework is buried under a floor or behind units it may need a second visit. I will tell you which on the day.

Do you do emergency gas leak call outs?

Yes, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week including nights and weekends. The out-of-hours call out is £160 rather than £80. If you can smell gas, call 0800 111 999 first, then me.

Will I get anything in writing?

Yes. A written report of what was tested and what was found, emailed the same day. Where an appliance or section has been made safe you also get a warning notice recording what was wrong and why.

Think you have a gas leak?

£80 to test, trace and make safe. If you can smell gas right now, call 0800 111 999 first, then ring me.
